Bears
Just to offer some sugestions for people interested to read about gay subcultures:
Bears on Bears
By Ron Jackson Suresha
alyson books
First edition, February 2002
Is the transcription of a series of interviews conducted by the author, with pretty prominent openly gay intelectuals and personalities.
One thing I love about this book is the fact that the reader is challenged to make interpretations and conclusions from this unbiased colection of interviews.
It is important for gay man and non gay men alike to learn about all the gay subcultures, or the lack of them... this way, we can open our minds a little bit in terms of the diversity not only of mentalities, but points of view in the gay community.
I am reffering to gay male only, because I will not adventure to make opinions about Lesbians, bisexuals or transgender people, since I am not any of the mentioned three.
If you are looking for something to read, this is both, interesting and entretaining (aside from being intellectually stimulating, something that is endangered in our western societies, because of religios fundamentalism and TV)

Thanks for the heads up, on the referenced book. I wish I had been interviewed. Bear subculture is both fascinating and diverse. Bear men, I feel, are the backbone of gay male existance. They have a sixth sense, and abilities to cope in this ever present hostile environment we face as gay men. They are more honest and nurturing. I hope these comments are in the book. Just some gut feelings and observations. WOOOF.
